Nordic School Chess Championship

Welcome to the Nordic School Chess Championship 2011, hosted by the Norwegian Youth Chess
Federation. The date of this arrangement is 18th-20th of February.

Location and accommodation

The tournament will take place in Oslo Schakselskap’s venues at Bogstadveien 30, 0355 Oslo.
See the map on next page. The participants from our fellow Nordic countries will be staying at Cochs
pensjonat at Parkveien 25, 0350 Oslo – a ten-minute walk from the game venue. Both places are
located in the centre of Oslo.

Getting there

Cochs pensjonat is situated within walking distance from Nationaltheatret, with tram, bus, tubeway
and train connections.
From Gardermoen Airport, there are two options:
Option 1 (recommended): Flytoget (the airport express train) with departure every 15 minutes. The
train stops at the Nationaltheatret. From here a ten-minute walk through Slottsparken brings you to
Cochs pensjonat.
Option 2 (slightly cheaper): Flybussen (the airport bus) stops near the SAS hotel in Oslo. From here a
five-minute walk along Slottsparken brings you to Cochs pensjonat.

If you arrive at the Central station (Oslo sentralstasjon), the easiest and quickest way to Cochs
pensjonat is either by bus (no 31 and 30) or tube (all west bound lines) to the Nationaltheatret, and
walk from there

Friday 18th:

o 10:30: Meeting for team leaders
o 11:00-16:00: 1st round
o 15:00-17:00: dinner
o 17:30-22:30: 2nd round
o 21:00: evening meal

Saturday 19th:

· 08:00-09:00: breakfast
· 10:00-15: 3rd round
· 14:00-15:30: lunch
· 16:00-21:00: 4th round
· 20:00-22:00: dinner (The dinner will be served at Billabong restaurant)

Sunday 20th:

· 08:00-09:30: breakfast
· 10:00-15:00: 5th round
· 14:00-15:30: lunch
· 16:00-21:00: 6th round
· 20:00-22:00: dinner (The dinner will be served at Billabong restaurant)
· 20:00 (approximately): award ceremony

Tournament rules

We play six rounds using the Swiss system. Each player gets 90 minutes with a 30 seconds increment
for the whole game. The tournament is divided into five classes, from A to E, with a maximum of two
players per country in each class.

  • Class A: For players turning 18, 19 or 20 years the year the Nordic Championship are being held.
  • Class B: For players turning 16 or 17 years the year the Nordic Championship are being held.
  • Class C: For players turning 14 or 15 years the year the Nordic Championship are being held.
  • Class D: For players turning 12 or 13 years the year the Nordic Championship are being held.
  • Class E: For players turning 11 (and younger) the year the Nordic Championship are being held.

Cost

The Norwegian Youth Chess Federation covers accommodation and food (AP) for two players in each
group and one team leader from each country.
The cost for accompanying persons is 2 000 NOK per person. Included in this is accommodation for
three nights and nine meals in total (dinner and evening meal on Friday; breakfast, lunch and dinner
on Saturday and Sunday; breakfast on Monday).
Those who are accompanying have to pay their national federation, which in return will be invoiced
by the organiser.
